It's Been A While

I have made a few changes to my blog - I hope you all like it! I know I have not been around in quiet some time, unfortunately we have not had the internet since April of last year. We moved in April and did not find out until AFTER we moved that no high speed internet was offered there except Hughes Net, which is expensive!

Anyways, we are moving in with my Sister in law next month, so we can share bills and all save money. We will be saving up while living there to purchase our own house. I am SO excited!

I am also starting school this summer to become a Paralegal, which I am super happy about! I will be working on my Associate's Degree in Public Service.

I do have tons of new baby shower gifts and favors that I need to show you all - it has been so long, but I have been taking and making orders, doing craft shows, and more. I am looking forward to being active on my blog once again - I have missed it!

Let me know what you think of the new look! And here (bottom of this post) is one of my new products - many more to come! These are long stem roses made from baby socks! I have not yet added them to my site, but I will be soon.

Well, considering I make diaper cakes, you could probably guess that cool and different/unique cakes would interest me. Recently, I was contacted by Matt, and he likes neckties - a lot. Fisher Price Rainforest Diaper Cake

I made this cake for the craft show I have this weekend as well, what do you think of it? It is four tiers, over 120 diapers, and it is made to match the Fisher Price Rainforest/Safari/Jungle theme, with fun bright colors. This is something new I am going to start making. Sorry, I will not be offering them online (unless you REALLY want one from me LOL) but I will be making them for the craft shows I do (that is, if there is an interest in them). This is the first one I have done, I like it, but I want to know what YOU think! :-) Also, I would love to hear what you would pay for one like this (this is yellow but I will be making cuter ones LOL) at a craft show or in a boutique. This one is a lovey size, it is 15 inches by 12 inches, not counting the tassels. If you count the tassels, it is about 19 inches by 16 inches. I would like to do more in this size, and then do some in a size for a car seat.

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you may remember the very first time I had a problem with someone stealing my pictures. The person is from Bowling Green, Kentucky and she posted on Craigslist saying her name was LaDonna and she had pictures of mine on her Craigslist ad. Her email address was chrisandladonna@msn.com and I called her, from her phone number on her Craigslist ad and she wanted to act stupid like she had no idea what I was talking about. She really pissed me off.

Well, I am still having problems, and so is Linda. They ordered from her and then tried to open a PayPal case saying there was unauthorized activity in their account, trying to get their money back, a whole $2. They need to get a life seriously.

This person or people have gone by a lot of names. Tiffany McDavitt, Lynn McDavitt, Lynn Johson, and LaDonna.

If any of you read this, you are NO LONGER welcome to order from either me or Linda, if you do your money will be refunded and you will be ignored.

Find something better to do with your time than be a thief and take advantage of people.

I don't really know what to do. I should be sleeping right now because I have not had much sleep and Brooke-Lynn will be up soon but I can't. My Grandma passed away a few years ago and I started thinking about her earlier. About how she used to watch me in the mornings when my Mom went to work before I had to go to school. Every morning she would make me breakfast. Every morning her house would smell like coffee and eggs. She always made them exactly how I liked them, egg whites only fried well. I miss her so much and I cannot stop crying. I know people lose loved ones every day but it is so hard. I do not have many people I can talk to. My Mom called and I think I made her cry a little too, I do not want to make her sad. I live in a little city pretty far away from everyone I know. I still go see my parents every couple of weeks or so but that is not enough. It is so rough. I stay home with the kids all day so I do not get to talk to many adults. My and Jimmy, we try so hard to make it but we still struggle every day. I feel like we are going to be stuck here forever. There is no hope of us buying a home so we can be closer to our family, we went and talked with a mobile home place not too long ago and they pretty much laughed at us. They told us if we wanted a house we would need at the very least $10,000 down, and that would just get us a refurbished trailer, that, as he said, is "just legal enough" for them to sell again. This sucks. I know people struggle and I know we have it better than a lot of people. I try to help people when I can but I do not feel like I make much of a difference in this world. Everywhere I turn there is something bringing us down. About a year ago we weren't doing too bad. Jimmy was making enough money for us to pay our bills and have a little food in the house. Now, Jimmy's pay got cut to almost minimum wage, and he is a welder. He hates it because he feels like he doesn't provide for our family. Our bills barely get paid and we never have enough left for food. When I do get orders, I usually spend too much on groceries then struggle to even ship out the items that got ordered. I feel like I am failing at this diaper cake thing but I love doing it. I know I sound like a big cry baby but I do not care. I thought we finally had a big break when we had a chance to move into my Great-Grandma's old house, but it was snatched away from us by someone who is much better off than we are. Life is just so unfair. I feel like a lot of this is my fault because I don't have a "real" job, but even if I did we wouldn't make enough to pay for daycare, gas, etc... so it's a waste even trying. I honestly do not know if anyone really reads this blog. I see there are visitors, but they never leave a mark, a comment, a thank you for giving me the info I was looking for, nothing. If you are reading this please let me know. It would make me feel not so alone. I am going to try to get some sleep now, if you read this, thank you, and I promise my next post will not be so sad.

Diaper Drive Update

I have an update and a picture of all the diapers I have so far!! A few great members of Wish Upon A Hero have helped me out with this drive. One member donated a dollar, which I took and added to and bought the first pack of diapers. Another member, Brandy, sent me two partial packs of diapers, about 50 in total. I have purchased 2 packs of diapers other than these as well. Today a Wish Upon a Hero member, Amy Wood, donated $4 which I took to Family Dollar and got a large pack of size 2 diapers with, they were on clearance for $5. The Walmart in Columbia, SC donated a $50 gift card!! With that card, I got 3 boxes of diapers (size 3, 5 and 6) and two packs of diapers (size 4 and 2). Another member of Wish Upon a Hero, Tamara, sent me a few sample diapers and Pull Ups they received. One other member has Pull Ups they can donate but no money to ship them with. It will be about $9.50 to ship them, so as soon as I have it (I am pretty broke!) I will be getting those donated as well!

So, to sum it up, so far I have 3 boxes, 6 complete packs, 2 partial packs, and 3 sample diapers! This is a total of over 5o0 diapers so far! It is so awesome to see how many people are willing to help! I am still aiming for a car full, please, if you can even just donate a dollar, it will go a long way! For every $2 I get, I will match it and buy a pack of diapers. If you have any diapers/pull ups/adult diapers/ feminine pads you do not need, please consider sending them to me. South Carolina Craft Shows 2010

So, I have craft shows planned for some of the months this year, but not all. I am open to ideas for craft shows in or around Sumter, SC or anything else I could go to where people would be interested in my items. I do not know many people in Sumter, but would like to get out more and expose what I do to more people. I am pretty sure there aren't very many other people here in Sumter (maybe 1 or 2) who do what I do, and of those 1 or 2 (if they exist), I know they don;t make everything I make. So, if I could just get to the people of Sumter I believe this could become something I could actually live off of. Right now it is barely gas money, if that. If my husband didn't work we would be in trouble! One day I would like to have a store and he could help me run it instead of welding for barely minimum wage.

Anyway, I am so easily distracted lol and got way off subject. If anyone knows of anything in or around Sumter or Columbia SC as far as craft shows or something similar, please leave a comment here and let me know, I would greatly appreciate it! (comments can be anonymous)

Here is what I have so far:

South Carolina Diaper Drive

I have posted before, with no response. Hopefully this time I can collect some diapers for babies in need! The following info is taken from SCDiaperChange:

Why Give?*
In low-income homes, babies often spend a whole day in a single diaper.
Dirty diapers raise the risk of health problems, from skin disease to hepatitis.
Babies who cry for a long time because of dirty diapers raise their risk of child abuse.
Babies often spend 2½ years in diapers. They need almost 12,000 changes, costing more than $4,000.
Parents who can’t afford to leave a diaper supply at their child care center may have to quit work to care for their children.
State programs don’t cover diapers.

Now, I live in Sumter, SC but I plan on taking a trip to the Harvest Hope Food Bank on Shop Road in Columbia, SC. I would love to have a car FULL of diapers when I go. If you have diapers that your child has outgrown, or would like to buy a package or two of diapers to donate, I will gladly come pick them up from Sumter or Columbia. If you live further away and would like to help, I will take donations and use all money for diapers. If you visit a Piggly Wiggly, you can get a pack of generic diapers for just $3.99. While newborn and size 1 diapers are needed, the need is greater for larger diapers, even Pull Ups and adult diapers.

I have two children, but my items are kept away from them, in a room they do not have access to. I am a stay at home Mom, and this is what I do to bring in grocery money and help my husband with our bills.

One more little note: all of my diaper creations are made with Luvs diapers, size 1 to fit babies 8-14 pounds. I never use store brands. My washcloths are high quality, 9" x 9" washcloths, which are silky soft on one side for baby's delicate areas (such as the face), and coarser on the other side for dirtier areas (such as knees). I had a great Christmas by the way, and I am very grateful for everything I got.

However, we did not get the house we have been waiting so long to find out about. My Great grandmother passed away about a year ago. A few months ago we found out we may get her house. I was so thrilled, but it was between my Grandma and her sister, with their brother (the oldest) making the decision. Her sister wanted the house for her daughter, she is pregnant and the house her and her husband bought is a 2 bedroom. This is her second child.

My Grandmother wanted the house for us. We rent, and we cannot afford our rent, bills and food. We get the bills paid each month by scraping money together, but there is never any left for food. We scrape by and my Mom buys us a lot of food. This neighborhood is not good and getting worse by the day. I won't let me kids play outside. Our neighbors are always drinking and fighting, I am surprised we haven't heard gunshots.

Well today I found out that they are getting it, not us. I have never ever wanted anything so much in my entire life. It is right down the road from my Grandma, all family lives around there, we would have not had to pay rent, but would have still paid her some each month to help with what it would have cost her (since the 3 kids would have "split" the cost three ways), my kids would have been able to play outside, and I would have actually been happy. In this house, my baby stuff that I used for Diaper Cakes by Wendy takes up a whole bedroom, so my daughter sleeps in our room and has to play in my son's room. I am starting to think the diaper cake business is a huge waste of time and money and that I need to get a "real" job. I love doing what I do but it does not bring in any money. As much as we struggle, I feel like I have no business sitting at home each day trying to get somewhere with this "business" of mine. If I could actually sell some stuff I feel I would be happy because I love doing it. Jimmy is so awesome because he works way more than 40 hours a week, he is a welder and barely akes minimum wage, so he works his ass off just to pay bills and he feels bad that he cannot provide for his family like he should, but the company he works for got sold and they took away most of his pay that he worked so hard for. He doesn't pay in any taxes so his checks will be enough to cover bills, so I just know that when it comes time to file, we will owe money. I don't know what to do.

I am so tired of being sad. I am waiting for our big break but I don't think it's coming. We try so hard. I get sick to my stomach when I see some people, they steal, they sell drugs, they lie, they do bad things but yet they are the ones walking around with new clothes, nice cars, and money. And they are on food stamps so their families can eat too. We get absolutely no assistance from the government, nor do we want any. None of us have health insurance. (besides whatever it is my husband is required to have as a welder so when he gets hurt he won't sue)

What am I doing wrong here?

My Mom is getting me one tomorrow from Wal Mart but the limit is 1 per person and I can't be there so I needed to find a way to get another one, I paid a little over $14 for it, but I don't care!!! :) Now Bruce and Brooke-Lynn will have a fake pet hamster for Christmas LOL!! I think it's name is Chunk. I don't really care which one it is I just wanted one! Apparently Jilly the pink one is very sought after, people are paying like $30 for that, and they are only $8 in Wal Mart when you can find them!

Have you seen or heard of these? If not, you are missing something wonderful! A reborn baby is actually a doll, but if you saw one with their parents out in public, you would most likely never know! There are many very talented artists who make these dolls out of kits, adding their hair by hand, painting their skin, adding even the tiniest details such as fingernails, all by hand! I cannot imagine the patience it takes to do such a task!

Anyway, I have had the pleasure of "meeting" (online) a wonderful lady who makes these dolls. Her name is Cyndi. She has ordered small lots of baby items from me twice now and I was curious to what it was for so I went snooping and found her beautiful dolls! They took my breath away! And this lady thinks I'M talented! I could never do what she does! Anyways, she sends each baby home with tons of goodies like pacis, cute clothes, accessories, a gift for Mom, and one of my cute washcloth creations! How exciting!

She currently doesn't have any babies listed but she says she lists about one per week. I am posting some pictures of her babies, they will astound you! After the pictures, I will add a link to her eBay page so you can check out what she currently has. If you haven't read my previous post, read it first. I have an update. She has added pictures back to her site. Some of them she doctored, and they look stupid. Take a look at the washcloth baby dolls with the faces drawn on, how stupid does that look?? And she thinks that by putting "images courtesy of image sharing websites" at the bottom of her website makes it okay to steal pictures. It is not. That is not how it works, you have to ASK permission to use pictures AND give credit to the OWNER. Anyway, she is openly admitted she made NONE of these items, so I have no idea why she is even trying to sell these things, and outrageous prices at that.

If you make diaper cakes or any other baby shower gifts and favors, please take a look at her website and make sure she hasn't stolen any of your pictures. I have emailed her, but she refuses to take them down. Maybe if she gets enough emails she will get a clue and remove our pictures.

As you can see, there are NO pictures on the website, which shows that every single picture she had up (there were hundreds) were stolen from somebody. She claimed public domain, but I just want to let everyone know something. Please visit the link below to read about "public domain" when it comes to pictures. Even if she did think she could use the pictures, taking people's pictures and then claiming to make the items yourself is a very good indicator that you should not be buying from this dishonest person. I work too hard to have someone passing my items off as their own. And YES, my pictures were watermarked, that doesn't stop some people.

So, we had an AWFUL experience at Golden Corral yesterday, and I wanted to share it with everyone. I love going to Golden Corral for the food and the bread but I never get good service there. I do not expect it either, because it just never happens. I guess the waitresses feel like they don't really have to take care of you much since there's a buffet. Anyway, this one visit was bad. I am pasting below a copy of the email I sent them, it will explain everything.

My Mother, I, and my 1 year old baby went to Golden Corral on Forest Drive in Columbia, SC on Sunday, November 22 (today) at 4pm. When we arrived, there were no high chairs for babies available, so we sat down to wait for one to become available, which we were understanding about. I notified a manager (a white lady, not sure of her name) that we were waiting so we could be sure to get the next avialable high chair. Well, after 20 minutes, we saw a waitress pushing a high chair across the floor. So I got up and let her know that we needed it. Well she got nasty with me and told me it was for HER customers, and I told her we had been waiting for one. She rolled her eyes and walked away with the chair. So I went and told the manager that I had spoke to before and she got an attitude, she walked to our table and said she has no control over who takes the high chairs. My Mom got mad and told her we had been waiting 20 minutes for a high chair and had been unable to eat as we were holding the baby. As she was standing there, the other waitress who took the high chair came over and pushed it towards us very rudely. The manager said "see she brought it back!" and then went on to tell us how the other customers needed the chair more because their baby was smaller than ours and our baby should sit in a booster seat like most babies her size. I could not believe what I was hearing. My baby CANNOT sit in a booster seat, she is only 1. She would have fallen out if we tried to put her in one. I cannot believe how rudely we were treated, by the time we got to eat our rolls were cold and our tea was watery, but the manager did not care. I know my Mother is probably going to email you or call as well, as we were both absolutely dumbfounded at how we were treated by the manager and other employees there. I must say I never expect (or get) great service at Golden Corral (but I love the rolls and food so go anyway) but this is one for the record books.

I actually found something this guy wrote about Alpha Inventions a while back, but never got to see it in action until today. then I started Googling it and apparently a lot of people do not like it. I don't get it.

Anyway, Alpha Inventions is not as complicated as so many seem to want to think it is. It is a "thing" that shows you blog posts from various platform as they are updated in real time. Make sense? Go to Alpha Inventions and you will see what I mean. It is like being subscribed to everyone's blog at the same time, which I think is neat because you could sit there and find something very interesting that you otherwise would not have found! You may fine your new favorite blog!

And for some reason there are a lot of people who don't want to be "included" in this. I don't get it. It's kinda like a search engine, and anyway, if you don't want people to see what you are writing maybe you shouldn't be writing it in an online blog.

I say, keep up the good work, I know that took a long time to do and I think it is neat. I hope those knuckleheads don;t bother you or get it taken down.

So, if you have been a reader for a while, there was a post where I said I would show a picture of how my diaper cakes USED to look like, well I deleted them all because, well, they weren't that good lol. Well, I found out that Linda had a picture of some of my old cakes and a wreath! So, I am about to show it to you but you have to promise not to laugh too hard! I actually kinda like them still, but they are the candle rolled diaper style cake, made with LUVS of course, and they have baby supplies on them. I know they are a little hard to see with all the cellophane lol but comments would be much appreciated and probably laughed at. Do you think I have improved any?

Why some people suck so much? Why, when someone else isn't happy with their life they feel the need to ruin someone else's? When, I am out here trying to do something good for myself and my kids, someone who obviously has no life and too much time on their hands feels like they should try to take it all away from me? Seriously, get a life already, if you aren't happy with sitting behind a desk all day working for someone else get off your ass and change it, don;t try to bring others down just because you are jealous.

Here are a bunch of pictures from our latest craft show - the Walhalla SC Oktoberfest. It was very disappointing because it rained the whole time and was VERY muddy, so not very many people showed up any of the 3 days. Linda was with me with her hair bows and my Mom was also with us, she made all the cute little pillows you see!

One Diaper a Day Isn't Enough

There are too many babies out there whose parents cannot afford diapers. These parents often times resort to leaving their child in the same diaper all day, or sometimes even longer. Some parents have to scrape off the diaper, air dry it, and reuse it. These are disposable diapers we are talking about. Babies who cry for long periods of time because of a soiled diaper are at a higher risk of being abused. Dirty diapers raise the risk of health complications, and of course make the baby very uncomfortable.

Please consider donating diapers locally if you can. They do not have to be name brand, you can get store brand diapers very cheap and I guarantee you the baby who receives it will be grateful. If you do not have time to donate, please feel free to contact me. I will be donating diapers regularly to our local food bank here in SC, the Harvest Hope Food Bank. You can see more facts at this link.

Keep in mind that although the first thing that may come to mind is small diapers, the biggest need is for larger diapers, pull ups, children's diapers, preemie diapers, and even adult diapers. Please consider donating, or contact me, I will gladly collect money and match everything donated to buy diapers in bulk and donate them.

*Edited to add* I wanted to add, I can get a pack of diapers for $5, so for every $5 donated I will buy 2 packs of diapers. I will gladly post here every time a pack is purchased, and when I take the diapers to the donation site. If donations are substantial enough I will also buy Pull Ups, overnights, and adult diapers for the toddlers, children, and elderly in need. Please consider helping.

I have A LOT of clothes that I do not wear, and that Bruce and Brooke-Lynn have grown out of and I would like to donate them to someone who needs them. I thought about Goodwill, but I do not like the idea of them selling the clothes very cheap when there are so many people out there with no money who need clothes. So I started looking on Google for places to donate and I found Sharing and Caring Hands. So I got the address and made up a huge box of clothes for them, but I still have clothes left, so i started looking on Google for homeless shelters in my city so I could just drop them off and I could find none. My city is weird, it is big enough but it seems like the people here like to pretend certain things do not exist (snobby), such as homelessness. It really is sad. Anyway, does anyone know how I can find real places where donated items go directly to those who need it? I thought of Freecycle too, but people take stuff there just because it's free, not because they need it, plus if they have internet access they obviously aren't too poor. I know there are lots of people who need these items, I just need to know how to get it to them.

Craft Show Pictures

As promised, here are photos from mine and Linda's first craft show together! My table definitely looked much better this time than my first show! Both of us were super tired though, as we had been up all night just doing the finishing touches and making a few things, maybe we would have done better had we not been so tired! Well, the craft show I have been talking about forever is over now, it was yesterday and I am beat! All that planning, all that freaking out about not having much stuff made, all that excitement, and I ended up bringing most of my stuff back home and not making a profit after booth fee, travel costs, etc...

But it's okay, I am not giving up and I have another craft show in less than a month, the 2009 Lexington FunFest. I guess I need to start keeping notes on what shows are like once I participate in them. I would do this show over again, I just would not put near as much into it next time, that way I am walking away with a profit, not a loss.

I joined a message board the other day, it is a place where people can just chat with other people in their area. Well someone was asking about how it is to live in this town so I replied to their post and told them a couple things I have experienced living here, including the bad things. Well apparently I pissed someone off and they have decided to go around posting fake reviews about me saying I suck and I am cheesy and my cakes are awful. I am ashamed that this person even lives where I live, shows how mature the folks around here are. Anyways, please let it be known that these reviews are fake and just the acts of some childish person who did not like the fact that I said something not nice and sunshiney about a couple of businesses in this town.

Factory Road Solutions Review

I love the idea of not using chemicals when at all possible so for the longest I have been looking for a good chemical free deodorant that actually works. Well boy have I found it! I was searching on eBay and came across Factory Road Solutions homemade all natural cream body deodorant. In the listing it says it is so effective you can skip a day. Of course I was skeptical because honestly I sweat a lot. I have bought all the super strong deodorants out the store, even tried Certain Dri, and nothing works. I will smell good for about 15 minutes after leaving the house only to smell funky a little later. And let me tell you, funky and flowery don't mix well! Soo I ordered this homemade deodorant, I didn't like the sound of any of the scents listed so I emailed the seller and asked if I could get just plain vanilla and they so graciously agreed to do this for me, much to my delight. I got the deodorant and used it after my next shower. It WORKS, better than anything I have tried. Of course I don't go out and sweat all day and work hard so I got Jimmy to try it too. He is a welder and works in 100 plus degrees all day long. Well, it works for him too, he loves it! I am absolutely taken away by this stuff and will NOT be buying anything else as long as it is available! Please go check it out and consider buying some, you will be doing something good for yourself (store bought deodorant contains aluminum, very deadly plus it can cause breast cancer and other bad side effects) but you will also love the way it works, I guarantee it!! Children's Vaccinations

I am one of those crazy people who it totally against vaccines. Of course my children still get them because they are forced to, but I am not happy about it. They are not monitored enough before use and then they are still used even after they kill many children. There is absolutely not enough done to ensure they are safe for our children. Of course I have read all the statistics but they do not make me feel better one bit. The CDC thinks it is okay to kill a few children, give a few autism, and make a few brain dead just because it doesn't happen that often. What if that was your child? Then they say it happens SOO rarely, like 1 in 1.5 million children. This is bull, as I personally have spoken with several people whose child has gotten Autism from the MMR vaccine. I do not know 1.5 million people, so how is this possible? Anyway, here is some information I got off the CDC website.

DTaP Vaccine:

Severe Problems (Very Rare)
Serious allergic reaction (less than 1 out of a million doses) Several other severe problems have been reported after DTaP vaccine. These include:

Long-term seizures, coma, or lowered consciousness
Permanent brain damage.

Influenza Vaccine:

In 1976, a certain type of influenza (swine flu) vaccine was associated with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Since then, flu vaccines have not been clearly linked to GBS. However, if there is a risk of GBS from current flu vaccines, it would be no more than 1 or 2 cases per million people vaccinated. This is much lower than the risk of severe influenza, which can be prevented by vaccination. (If the people who make the vaccine do not even know what they are talking about, how can we trust them?)

MMR Vaccine:

Moderate Problems

Seizure (jerking or staring) caused by fever (about 1 out of 3,000 doses)
Temporary pain and stiffness in the joints, mostly in teenage or adult women (up to 1 out of 4)
Temporary low platelet count, which can cause a bleeding disorder (about 1 out of 30,000 doses)

Severe Problems (Very Rare)

Serious allergic reaction (less than 1 out of a million doses)
Several other severe problems have been known to occur after a child gets MMR vaccine. But this happens so rarely, experts cannot be sure whether they are caused by the vaccine or not. These include:
- Deafness
- Long-term seizures, coma, or lowered consciousness
- Permanent brain damage

Meningoccal Vaccine:

Severe problems

Serious allergic reactions, within a few minutes to a few hours of the shot, are very rare.
A serious nervous system disorder called Guillain-Barré Syndrome (or GBS) has been reported among some people who received MCV4.

Smallpox Vaccine:

Moderate to Severe Problems

Serious eye infection, or loss of vision, due to spread of vaccine virus to the eye.
Rash on entire body (as many as 1 per 4,000).
Severe rash on people with eczema (as many as 1 per 26,000).
Encephalitis (severe brain reaction), which can lead to permanent brain damage (as many as 1 per 83,000).
Severe infection beginning at the vaccination site (as many as 1 per 667,000, mostly in people with weakened immune systems).
Death (1-2 per million, mostly in people with weakened immune systems).

For every million people vaccinated, between 14 and 52 could have a life-threatening reaction to smallpox vaccine.

People who come in direct contact with the vaccination site of a vaccinated person, or with materials that have touched the site, can also have a reaction. This is from exposure to virus from the vaccination site.

People are dying every day from vaccines, I believe they need to be made safer, but then again, like I said, I am crazy. Please share your thoughts.

Huggies Pure & Natural Diapers Review

Since diapers are pretty much my life due to making diaper cakes, I like to stay on top of what is new, what is best, and what Moms prefer. So of course when Huggies came out with a new diaper, Huggies Pure & Natural, I had to give it a try. My daughter it 19 months old and wears a size 5 or 6 diaper. I only saw the Pure & Natural up to a 5 so that is what I got.

First let me start off by saying I do NOT like Huggies at all. I tried them with my son (he is 5 now) and I did not like them then either. But just thought I would give the new ones a try. I liked the fact that they are made with organic cotton and that they are hypoallergenic, although my daughter doesn't necessarily have sensitive skin.

When I first opened the pack I noticed how soft the diapers are. They are soft to the touch (not quite as much so as Pampers Swaddlers though) but they are also squishy soft, almost like a cloth diaper. They are also soft colored, as they use less dyes in it then the regular Huggies. My opinion on this is that if a Mom is worried about the dyes in a diaper, she is unlikely to buy this one just because it has LESS, when she could just get cloth diapers that have NONE, so if this was a concern for Huggies they should have made the diapers white.

So I put the diaper on my daughter, it is the correct size but the fit is bad, just they way Huggies in general are shaped do not conform well to baby's bodies, the back of the waistband doesn't even touch her skin even with the diaper fastened securely. So at the first diaper change I noticed the cotton in the diaper bunched up very, very badly, which is one of the reasons I dislike Huggies. All Huggies do it, but these do it worse. Also, when I changed the diaper, my daughter's skin was very wet. I did not leave the diaper on her too long, it just does not absorb the wetness away from her skin very well at all.

That was how the daytime use went. So I tried it overnight. My daughter sleeps about 14 hours at night, but never wakes ups with an extremely wet diaper. These diapers are a very bad choice for overnight use. She woke up with her pants and bed soaked, her skin extremely wet, and her diaper area smelled foul.

The velcro fasteners on these diapers are also very weak and do not hold well at all.

So to sum it up, I do NOT recommend the Huggies Pure & Natural diapers. If you like to think you are helping your baby or the environment by buying them, please consider switching to cloth diapers. My daughter has 2 cloth diapers and just those save us a lot of money each month, and also save a lot of diapers from going into landfills.

So needless to say I will never be using these on my daughter again once this pack is gone, and I will never be making any diaper cakes with them either. Things To Consider When Buying a Diaper Cake

How to buy a diaper cake

I must admit I look around the internet very often at other diaper cakes and sometimes get pretty mad at what I find. I just want to write a quick guide on what to look for when deciding to purchase a diaper cake for a loved one's (or your own) upcoming baby shower.

First things first, look at the style of the diaper cake. There are pretty much 2 styles you can choose from - the candle roll type, where every individual diaper is rolled up and stood up in the tiers, or there is the spiral type, which can be made in a variety of ways. The best one by far is the spiral style cake. The reason for this is because, if you give a rolled type, the Mom is going to have to unroll every single diaper before she uses it. Most people secure them with rubber bands, some with ribbons, either way, it is a pain having to take every diaper apart (I got one of these types for my baby shower) before using it.
Then there is the spiral style. Different people make these different ways. Some people start in the middle, adding layers of diapers as they go around, until each tier is the desired size. There is nothing wrong with this, but the Mom will still have some work to do before she can use the diapers, as she will have to untie each layer and stack them up herself as she goes.
Then there is the boutique spiral style cake, this is the best kind. But beware, many people call their cakes boutique spiral style diaper cakes although they are not. This may be to mislead buyers, or it may be because they do not know the difference, that is not my call to make, I am just saying beware. The boutique spiral style cake is absolutely the easiest to use, the diapers will have been handled the least, and it is super easy to take apart when the time come. Here at Diaper Cakes by Wendy, I make my cakes so all you have to do is untie the whole tier and there you have a whole stack of diapers, ready to use, nice and neat.

The next thing you should be looking for is the brand of diapers used in the diaper cake. If you do not see a brand listed, this is usually a good indicator that they have used low quality, store brand diapers in the cake. If you are unsure, always ask first. I know very, very few new Moms who are willing to use cheap diapers on their newborn, so while your gift may be cute, it will be a waste of money because the Mom is unlikely to actually use the diapers. Huggies, Pampers, and Luvs are all good brands. You may want to ask the new Mom what she prefers, or if you want to surprise her, just make sure you get good diapers. I use Luvs for a couple of reasons. One is because I am a Mom and I have tried just about every diaper out there on my two children. I do not like Huggies because they leaked on both of my children, and the padding bunches up in them badly. I do like Pampers, but not the Swaddlers. They get really puffy and leave gel on baby's skin, which is hard to remove with a wipe. Pampers Cruisers are the exact same diaper as the Swaddlers, they are just made in larger sizes, while the Swaddlers are made in smaller sizes. Pampers Baby Dry are good diapers, they conform to baby's shape and they absorb well without leaving gel on baby or getting too puffy. They don't make a good diaper cake choice though as they have print all over them, making for a cluttered looking cake. Luvs is the EXACT same diaper as the Pampers Baby Dry, but they are white on the back, making for a perfect diaper cake diaper choice. If you do a little research, you will find that Luvs and Pampers are made by the same company, PG. They are the same diaper, sold under a different name and at a better price. This allows me to use excellent diapers while also keeping my prices affordable. I would NEVER use anything on my baby shower creations that I would not use on my own baby.

Next thing to look at is the diaper size. If you have children of your own or know anyone with children, you may already know many babies are born big. My son was born at 7 pounds 15 ounces, and my daughter was 8 pounds 9 ounces, so they were both pretty big! Newborn diapers are only for babies up to 10 pounds, so my son was able to wear them a couple of weeks, while my daughter could never wear them (although she wasn't 10 pounds, they didn't fit her). Many sellers use newborn diapers because they are smaller and more come in a pack, giving the illusion that you are getting a good deal because you are getting more diapers per cake. This is not the case, plus you never know if the baby will be small enough when born to even wear the diapers.
Then there are the sellers who use large diapers, say size 2 or 3. This is good because the cake will be able to stay together longer before the new Mom has to take it apart, but it can be bad too. The cake will just be sitting in the nursery taking up space and gathering dust until the baby grows into the diapers. Also, you will get fewer diapers per cake when these diapers are used.
All reasons listed above are why I use size 1 diapers. They fit babies from 8 to 14 pounds, so the Mom can keep it together for a while, or she can use them right away! A win-win either way!

Now, look at the amount of diapers used in the cake. Sometimes it is hard to judge by pictures how big a cake is. Many sellers use about 25-30 diapers in their 2 tiered cakes, and about 45-50 in their 3 tiered cakes. Not me!! My two tiered cakes contain over 50 diapers, and my three tiered cakes contain about 70!! That is a great deal! And on top of that, my cakes are priced lower than what theirs are, while still offering more diapers!

While I do not add baby supplies to my cakes, some people do, so be sure to look at that too. Sometimes these things that cost you more will go to waste. New Moms are very picky about what they use on their new baby. Many sellers use Dollar Store items to "fill" their cakes. Sad, but true. Not only that, but if pacifiers, bottles, etc.. are on the cake, make sure the Mom will use them before buying the cake. If the Mom plans on breastfeeding or not offering a pacifier, they could just go to waste. Also, with bottles, spoons, and pacifiers, make sure the sellers uses BPA free items for the new baby!

So there you have it, these are very important things to think about when trying to decide on a diaper cake! Please feel free to leave a comment here letting me know what you think! This is my newest diaper cake, it is going to a maternity boutique tomorrow but I will be making one just like it for the craft show (sorry this is a show only cake special). It is a 3 tiered boutique spiral style cake made with about 70 size 1 Luvs diapers. I have not decided what to charge for it yet, but it is definitely going to be under $50. I would love opinions on the cake itself and what you would pay for it. Thanks!
